Where do I phone the
match results?
Substitutes
and Short-handed Teams
Where can I get a copy
of the Rules, Fixtures etc?
Match results should be phoned or texted to Russ on 07768
428303 before 11.30pm AT THE LATEST (and preferably well before that) on
the night of the quiz. While reasonable
effort is made to track down any missing results, please note that any result
not received by that time may, at the organiser’s discretion, be forfeit with
no points awarded.
Don’t forget I also
play the Quiz and so can’t switch my phone on until the end of the Main Quiz,
so texting is probably the best option for all concerned.
Note also that while
anyone may phone in the results, it is ultimately the responsibility of the
winning Captain, or of the Home Captain in the case of a draw, to ensure that
the result is reported.
The rules for substitutes
and playing with fewer than 4 players were significantly changed for the 2005-6
Season.
All teams should try to have substitutes on whom to call, since postponements are only permitted under exceptional circumstances. Where a pub has two teams playing, players may now represent EITHER or BOTH sides (rule 2.3) so substitutes are no longer tied to the first team they play for in a season. Note that players can’t sub for another pub unless they move PERMANENTLY (rule 2.5).
If a team cannot raise four players, they are now allowed to answer ALL the individual round questions in accordance with the new rule 3.4.v as follows (it was felt that the original rule was too harsh on teams who were prepared to have a bash with a short-handed team rather than default games or withdraw from the League altogether):
For a three-player team, one person must be RANDOMLY selected to answer the extra question for each individual round. It must be a different player for each round, and the choice must be made before the start of play and made known to all concerned.
Two suggested methods to decide who gets the extra questions are:
For teams dedicated enough to play with 2 or even 1 player, 2 or 4 questions each are answered as appropriate.
The only change for 2005-6 regarding the late arrival of
teams or individuals is that a latecomer may now join in a match where their
team has started short-handed, but since it seems that the existing rules were
not very well known anyway I’ve reproduced rule 1.4 here:
1.4 Late Arrival of Teams or Individuals
i
If a team or team member is delayed on the night of the
quiz, then, providing the opponents are made aware of the situation, a minimum
of 30 minutes should be allowed beyond the designated start time for them to
arrive. Further waiting time is at the discretion of the opposing team,
otherwise the match should proceed, either with those team members present (see
Rule 3.4.v) or substitute(s) if they can be
found, else be defaulted.
ii
If, after a match is started
with a reduced team, a missing team member should arrive they are permitted to
join in the match. If however a substitute player has started in their place
they may not replace the substitute.
iii If a team has not notified the pub and/or opposing team that they will be delayed, 10 minutes should be allowed beyond the designated start time after which the match may be claimed by default by the other team. Should the team subsequently arrive, the match may of course still take place if the opposing team agrees.
iv It is assumed that if a team is aware in advance that they will be unable to play a given fixture then they will have the courtesy to inform their opponents as soon as possible.
Rule 1.5: It was agreed at the AGM held on 1 August 2001 that no postponements will be allowed except in exceptional circumstances such as things which affect the venue and cannot be foreseen: flood, fire, landlord doing a runner, that sort of thing. Refits, Special Functions and the like should be known about in advance and in that case it is the duty of the Home Team to find an alternative venue, although the organiser may be able to help if you’re having trouble (in any case please inform the organiser of any changes of venue). Where regular team members are unable to play substitutes may be used, or if desperate the team can play short-handed. This strict ruling was necessitated by certain teams who refused to field anything other than their strongest players and created a backlog of matches at the end of the season.
If a team defaults on a fixture full points are awarded to the opposing team, who also are credited with the average winning score for their division that week, the defaulting team getting no points and the lowest score in the division less 1.
If a team is forced to default a match, it is assumed they will have the decency to inform the opposition and the organiser as early as possible, so that people do not waste time and money travelling to non-existent fixtures or preparing unwanted food.
All Landlords or Quiz Captains should have these but you can get extra copies here.
